Situation and Challenges

An automotive products supplier listed as a fast-growing company in the North East, had no human resources support. The company’s attorney suggested that the company hire HR support to coach human resources through its continued growth. The company also had some pressing issues, such as friction between two members of the management team and an employee.

Solution

We met with the leadership team to discuss HR issues and conducted an HR audit to pinpoint critical needs. Based on their findings, and supported by best practices, we designed and implemented the following:

  • Employee handbook

  • Job descriptions

  • Performance appraisal process

  • Compensation study

  • Merit increase plan

  • Management training

We introduced the employee handbook to all staff members and conducted management training on interviewing, performance management, and performance appraisal.


Results

The company was thrilled with the results. The operations director took an interest in HR and asked us to coach and mentor her so that she could take over the function. She now serves as the director of human resources.

To resolve the conflict between upper management and the employee, we arranged a meeting between the employee and the president, coached the employee to improve interpersonal skills, and helped the company change the employee’s duties. The employee is now a successful contributor to the organization.
