Joe Conen is a business and leadership coach with over a decade of experience helping senior-level business professionals and entrepreneurs achieve remarkable success. With a Juris Doctorate and a lifelong commitment to growth, Joe combines real-world strategy with powerful mindset work to drive transformative results. His coaching goes beyond theory, focusing on actionable strategies that create lasting change.
Joe believes that mindset and emotional wellbeing are inseparably linked to business performance—a principle he discovered while coaching leaders at top organizations like Google, Microsoft, Wells Fargo, Fidelity, AT&T, and the Navy SEALs transitioning team. As a trusted advisor to leaders and a management consultant, Joe serves as a secret weapon for those looking to unlock their true potential. His approach blends strategy, emotional intelligence, and resilience, empowering leaders to achieve clarity, balance, and lasting success.
I was born during the Iranian Revolution into a world of uncertainty. I never knew my father, and from early on I carried the weight of abandonment, abuse, upheaval, and loss. My childhood was marked by instability — I lived in more than a dozen cities before I was even a teenager, changing names, religions, and cultures along the way. I never truly felt like I belonged anywhere. Along the way, I experienced racism and violence, including being attacked by skinheads.
By 17, I was homeless and spiraling in destructive cycles. I even had “struggling” tattooed on my arm because I didn’t believe I would survive. Not exactly the kind of teenage branding choice you’d want to put on a résumé — but at least I was being honest. That path eventually led me into LA County Jail, where I hit one of my lowest points.
“Don’t get lost in your pain, know that one day your pain will become your cure.” – Rumi
After jail, I landed in rehab. That’s where the first real change began. It was here that I faced the truth: I couldn’t keep living in the same destructive patterns. Not long after, my brother was murdered — a loss that added even deeper weight to my journey. At his funeral, it was hard to even shed tears; my body had learned long before to shut down emotions as a way of surviving the abuse and chaos I grew up in.
From that point forward, I committed to change. I went back to school, graduated college, and stepped into new possibilities. Over the years, I worked in corporate environments, served at the District Attorney’s Office, worked in banking, ran a nonprofit, and led HR for a company. Each chapter gave me a new perspective on leadership, systems, and people.
Alongside my career, I dedicated myself to personal growth. I earned a law degree, pursued leadership development, and explored many coaching and healing modalities. Over time, I developed an integrated framework that combines emotional intelligence assessments, leadership strategies, coaching tools, and many other approaches. This framework meets people where they are and creates transformation from the inside out — helping leaders rise above old patterns, embody their values, and lead with clarity and confidence.
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” – Carl Jung
For decades, I carried identities and stories that weren’t truly mine. Recently, I discovered truths about my father that revealed the story I had been told for decades wasn’t accurate. That revelation led me to legally change my name — a profound identity shift that aligned my values, background, and story with who I really am. Organizations go through the same thing: clinging to old identities that no longer serve them. Real leadership begins when we have the courage to step into alignment.
“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” – Joseph Campbell
My life was shaped by trauma, loss, and instability — but those wounds became my teachers. I’ve developed an approach that integrates emotional intelligence, leadership strategy, trauma healing, and outside-the-box practices like plant medicine. My superpower is connecting dots — weaving together traditional tools like EI assessments, the Enneagram, StrengthsFinder, and DISC with unconventional approaches that create breakthrough results.
This work has changed hundreds of lives and transformed organizations from the inside out. I’ve seen cultures shift from fear to trust, leaders embody authenticity instead of burnout, and teams align around a shared purpose. Every person I help creates ripple effects: their families, teams, and communities are impacted.
“As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” – Marianne Williamson
Most of my clients are professionals, business owners, or organizational leaders between the ages of 30 and 60. They’re committed to growth and open to doing things a little differently. My work helps them grow their business, become better leaders, and lead more powerfully in their personal lives.
And maybe my most important leadership work isn’t in boardrooms at all — it’s at home. I’m the father of a 13-year-old daughter, and raising her without passing on what I experienced has been my greatest work. Committing to evolve, to show up, and to give her a different experience than I had growing up has been life-changing. And let’s just say — raising a teenager is definitely another challenging experience. 😅
My mission is to help leaders and organizations break free from limiting stories, align with their values, and step into authentic, resilient leadership — at work and in life.
From chaos to clarity. From survival to strategy. From disconnection to embodiment. From identity confusion to alignment. From pain to purpose.
That’s the path I’ve walked, and it’s the path I now help others walk too.
